Oral mock exams

As you know, we're doing mock exams at the end of April to see how you are doing with the course and for you to be in the same situation you'll be in the final exams. Please check here the time and dates you have to take your oral mock exams. Please contact me if your name appears in red or if you are not there at all.
As you can see, these oral exams will take place on Monday and Wednesday. On these two days, you only have to come the day and time you have been assigned.
I'll let you know soon about the dates for the listening, reading and grammar exams.

Update.

We have just finished unit 3 with a revision of all the tenses we have learnt so far. Make sure you don't have any problems using them correctly! Don't forget your workbook, course website, Multi-ROM, grammar activities at the back of the book... It's a MUST to keep them up to date!

Apart from an exercise on Meet me in Istanbul, we have some homework for Monday:
  • page 35, 5 (vocabulary: verbs+prepositions).
  • page 37, an informal letter (do the activities, not the writing!).
  • pages 38-39 (not the listening and speaking sections at the end).
Have a nice weekend!!!!

Dido's White Flag

Homework for Wednesday

We're learning about how to use "will" to talk about decisions, promises and offers, so do any activities related to File 3C and the worksheet "will or going to?" to correct tomorrow. There's also an interesting activity on the use of verbs followed by "back" on the coursebook, page 33 (act 4), that we will correct tomorrow.
And remember to write your names on the list for the oral mock exam in April. If you have any issues, please let me know.
See you tomorrow!

Meet me in Istanbul.

Remember you have to read your compulsary reading Meet me in Istanbul before MONDAY 30th March (that's the date for the test!).

Have a toast on Saint Patrick's Day!

Everybody has cheered and toasted on St. Patrick's Day, but how much do you know about the origins of this holiday and its traditions? Do all the worldwide well-known customs associated with this day come from Ireland?
PART 1. Read this text, adapted from history.com, and do the comprehension activities. Then check your answers.

PART 2. Watch this video and do this multiple choice activity. Click here to check your answers.

Cheers!!

Update!

Please remember we're studying the different ways of expressing the future, and you should review and do any activities related to it since it is a bit complicated. We're on page 30 now in your books. You have to do the worksheet I gave you to review the use of "will" for predictions (3B).

And have a very nice weekend!

Wednesday, class composition: a letter.

Please remember we are doing today the first of the class compositions we have to do this course, a narrative. You will have 50 minutes to write a story based on a clue... Don't forget that using the past tenses correctly is essential!
See you later!

No class on Monday!

If you check your course calendar you'll see that the school is closed on Monday! However, you have some homework to do for this long weekend!
  • Revision of unit 2, pages 26 and 27.
  • 3A, pages 28 and 29: 1.reading, 2. grammar and 4.vocabulary.
Please remember that we have just finished unit 2. It is about the different past tenses (past simple, continuous and perfect), and that includes not only File 2 in your books but also File 9A. So please remember to do any activities at the grammar section, workbook and extra materials if you need from your Multi-ROMs or coursebook website.

Don't forget about your second composition, which is based on the activity on page 25. You have to send me your composition telling me the story behind a photo (that you have to attach!).

No class tomorrow!

Sorry I can't teach tomorrow since I have to attend an appointment with my dentist that I can't miss.
You have some homework to do:
  • page 22 in your books (Reading and Grammar).
  • Prepositions of time (a worksheet I gave you on Monday)
I'll see you in class on Wednesday.

Update

We have just finished file 2C in our books, so make sure you do all the activities in the workbook, Multi-ROM, grammar section at the back of the book and the New English File website. We also have some homework to for Monday:
  • File 2C, 5, Reading: "Who wrote Imagine?"
  • Prepositions of place worksheet (I gave you on Wednesday)
  • Check the lyrics of Imagine and leave a comment with your opinion.
Have a nice weekend!

How do you IMAGINE a different world?

Who wrote Imagine? You know now, but can you imagine a different world? Please watch Lennon and Yoko Ono's clip and read the lyrics. Then write a comment about the song and your opinion about a better world.

Imagine there's no heaven
It's easy if you try
No hell below us
Above us only sky
Imagine all the people
Living for today...

Imagine there's no countries
It isn't hard to do
Nothing to kill or die for
And no religion too
Imagine all the people
Living life in peace...

You may say I'm a dreamer
But I'm not the only one
I hope someday you'll join us
And the world will be as one

Imagine no possessions
I wonder if you can
No need for greed or hunger
A brotherhood of man
Imagine all the people
Sharing all the world...

You may say I'm a dreamer
But I'm not the only one
I hope someday you'll join us
And the world will live as one
